Train Builder: Alstom
Handover: 2008-2012

The XCC or Coradia Continental electric multiple unit (EMU) is from the Coradia family of trains manufactured by Alstom for Germany’s national rail network, Deutsche Bahn (DB). The low floor trains run at a maximum speed of 160 km/h and are suitable for suburban and regional routes.

Alstom built the XCC trains at its plant in Salzgitter, Germany. As part of its strategic supplier relationship with Alstom, BFG produced 310 integrated toilet cabins for these trains at its Bahrain facility. Each cabin is fitted with a 2-litre grey water system, a polyethylene internal waste water tank, and EVAC vacuum toilet system.

In all, 30 types of FRP panels were manufactured for each toilet cabin. This particular project demanded internal and external finishes on a single panel, so the interiors received a gel-coated finish and the external side received a painted finish. All parts, which were produced using a contact moulding process, comply with DIN 5510-2 fire safety regulations.
